Don’t forget to purchase your Valentine Candy Grams for just $3!
Your support will go towards our Teacher Appreciation Luncheon.
Valentine Grams are GREAT for teachers, friends, parents,
siblings, and anyone who you would like to make feel special.
You can turn in your money with a message to your teacher or put
it in the Valentine box in the office. We will also be selling
them before school every Tuesday and Thursday up until February
14th. Don’t miss out on sending these very cute Grams to someone
special!
It is with sadness that we say good-bye to our librarian Mrs.
Laird. She has taken a full-time job (a promotion) starting on
Monday, February 6, 2017. We wish her the best of luck. She will
be missed.
We will be looking for volunteers to help in the library if you
are available. It would be from 9:00a-12:00p, but we would gladly
accept any time during that window that you could carve out of
your schedule.
For a few years we have had a program after school to learn
skills in volleyball, basketball, flag football. There is a fee
for each class and sport. Please look for those sign-ups to come
home if you are interested.
We will also be getting out information about Runnin’ for Rhett
to begin in February.
Kindergarten registration for the 2017-18 school year begins
Tuesday, January 17th.
Students must be 5 years old by September 1, 2017.
Registration will be accepted at the Sacramento City Unified
School District Enrollment Center. The Enrollment Center is
located at 5601 47thAve, Sacramento, 95824. The number for the
Enrollment center is 643-2400, if you have any questions.
Every winter the staff struggles to make sure your children are
wearing their coats and jackets (and we ask “how they can be
wearing shorts!”).
Please help us by putting your child’s initials or name in their
clothing, we know that MANY articles of clothing will be lost
because students take them off at recess when they are playing
and leave them.
Also, we HIGHLY encourage you to have your children wear pants in
January and February. We cannot say that all illnesses are
related to being cold, but we know that it is better to be warm.
On November 4th, some students will receive Progress Notices from
their teachers in their back packs or Friday folders.
There is always time to improve. You can help your child by
making sure s/he reads every day at home, including weekends.
Another skill all students need is basic addition, subtraction,
multiplication, and division facts. These can be easily practiced
with flash cards, games, oral quizzes, and apps on
phones/tablets.
For more information, your child’s teacher will be able to give
you ideas.
Parent Teacher conferences are Monday, November 28th, through
Tuesday, December 6th.
During Parent Teacher Conferences we have early dismissal for the
First through Sixth grades. School will get out at 1:22pm for 1st
through 3rd grades, and 1:30pm for 4th through 6th grades.
Lunch will be served after dismissal, so send your student with a
small healthy snack (no drinks or sweets). Kindergarten
hours remain the same.
Sequoia’s 5th grade classes recently took a walking field trip to
our local middle school, Albert Einstein, to see what is in store
for our students.
The trip focused on the science curriculum they offer including
life sciences, physical sciences, and robotics.
The students even had a chance to conduct two science
experiments. The first, with Ms. Stowell dissolved aluminum (Al)
in a solution of copper sulfate (CuSO4) and extracted the copper
from the aluminum.
Wear your Halloween costume for our annual parade!
Students are encouraged to wear their costume to school on
Monday, October 31st.
Costumes must be appropriate for school and young children.
Inappropriate costumes will not be allowed. Parents till be
called to bring a change of clothes. Costumes must adhere to the
school dress code. Props are to be pre-approved by teacher if
brought to school (e.g., light saber, pitchfork, broom, etc.)
Exciting news for the 2016-17 school year: To improve our service
to families and students, we are giving teachers dedicated time
every week to plan together. Research shows that educators who
collaboratively discuss and plan their work are more effective in
the classroom.
To accommodate this collaborative time, we will be adjusting bell
schedules for the fall and releasing students early on Thursdays.
All other days, students will stay in school a little longer than
last year. Please see our new bell schedule for details. This
starts on the first day of school!
